Dental bonding in Staten Island

What do celebrities Michael Strahan, Madonna, Anna Paquin, and Anthony Anderson all have in common? They each have a recognizable gap between their teeth.  For them, that’s who they are. For you? If you have a space or spaces between your teeth, you may be self-conscious enough about it to seek a remedy such as a dental bonding in Staten Island.

Dr. Alex Parshin doesn’t treat the above named celebrities at his cosmetic, restorative, and general dentistry practice. However, he does see patients from many walks of life who rely on him to help them with a smile makeover.

“There is nothing more important to me than having a successful outcome for each patient who comes to Parshin Dental,” said Dr. Parshin. “They make an appointment in hopes of my being able to help them get the smile they want so they can stop being shy and embarrassed about their teeth.”

What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding in Staten Island is the application of a durable plastic resin material to repair and restore teeth to their normal appearance. While veneers can be used in similar fashion, they need to be custom-made and the natural teeth need to be shaved down. Bonding material is created right at Dr. Parshin’s office location and the procedure can often be completed in a single visit, without any teeth being shaved.

When is dental bonding recommended?

Once Dr. Parshin performs a through examination of a patient’s teeth, which may include X-rays, he will evaluate his findings and make a recommendation. A dental bonding can be the procedure of choice to repair teeth that are chipped or cracked, to close any space between teeth, to reshape teeth, or to improve the look of discolored teeth. The resin material can also be used as an alternative to metal to fill cavities, and as a protective surface to the exposed root of a tooth.

Is dental bonding a long, drawn-out procedure?

Not at all. Very little preparation in advance is required to perform the process.  What Dr. Parshin does first is select a resin color that closely matches the color of the patient’s teeth so that the bonding looks as natural as possible. Then, the next step is to polish the surface of the tooth that is being repaired and apply a special liquid so that the bonding resin adheres to the tooth. Once the material is applied, Dr. Parshin will mold and smooth it to the proper shape before using a laser light to harden the material. Finally, any additional trimming or shaping will be done before Dr. Parshin polishes the resin. The entire per tooth process takes about 30 minutes to complete.

Of all the things you can do to maintain a healthy mouth, flossing has got to be the least expensive! But many patients don’t take the time to floss. And if you do, you might not be doing it correctly! Welcome to Flossing 101…

Why should you floss?

Flossing Tips

Your toothbrush isn’t enough to brush away the plaque that can build up between teeth and at the gumline. A complete dental routine includes both brushing and flossing.

How often should you floss?

Once a day is ideal. Believe it or not, flossing more often (or with more rigor) can damage your gums. The only exception to once-a-day flossing is if you need to remove pieces of stringy or sticky foods that get stuck after eating. Don’t leave those in there too long.

Should you floss before or after brushing?

Either one is fine!

How should you floss?

Pull out about 18 inches of floss (any brand is fine). Wind the floss tightly around your index or middle fingers on both hands so that the floss between your hands is taut. Slide the floss between each set of teeth that touch, as well as where your last molar meets your gums. Slide the floss up and down the teeth, following the natural curve of each tooth in a “C” shape. Imagine the floss giving each tooth a little hug! Floss between teeth and where your teeth meet your gums. Use a new clean section of floss for each set of teeth.

You can ask our hygienist at Parshin Dental to show you how to floss at your next visit.

Can’t floss?

If arthritis in your hands or another condition prevents you from flossing adequately, consider a dental pick, oral irrigator, or electric flosser. Give us a call 718-494-2010 or ask about options at your next visit! We will help find a solution for you!

Smile anxiety is a very real condition many people suffer in silence. They are embarrassed by their smile because of discolored, chipped, or uneven teeth. They tend to cover up their mouth when they laugh. They may even come up with any excuse they can to avoid social gatherings and face-to-face encounters. If this sounds like you, then you may be interested to learn all about what veneers in Staten Island can do to bring your once beautiful smile back to life.

Many first-time patients come to Dr. Alex Parshin for cosmetic help with their smile. Dr. Parshin has built his reputation on his commitment to providing quality care for his patients. Utilizing the latest technology available, he is able to create a comforting environment where patients are able to make informed decisions about their dental health. From digital x-rays and 3D printed molds, patients have complete confidence that they are in trusted hands.

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers in Staten Island are an option for patients who have one or more teeth that exhibit worn enamel, have jagged edges, gaps between them, or have discoloration from coffee, tea, or tobacco stains. A veneer is a very thin shell that has been custom-designed to fit over each tooth that needs treatment. After a worn, damaged, or discolored tooth is prepared by removing a tiny layer of its remaining enamel, the veneer is cemented in place. The result is a tooth, or several teeth, that is suddenly aligned properly, gleaming in color, and free of any imperfections.

Do porcelain veneers look unnatural?

Not at all. Porcelain has many of the same properties as real tooth enamel. Veneers are translucent, which means they allow some light to enter and pass through their surface. Dr. Parshin uses state-of-the-art software to ensure that each patient has porcelain veneers designed for them that look natural in texture. They are resistant to staining, so many patients will have their teeth whitened as the first step so that their veneers can be color-matched to their unaffected teeth.

Who makes a good candidate for porcelain veneers?

If you are in good oral health at the time of your consultation and examination by Dr. Parshin, you should be an excellent candidate for the procedure. The only circumstances where porcelain veneers are not recommended is if a patient has a tooth or teeth that require a root cancel or other dental procedures to repair or save them.

Is there a long waiting period to get my veneers?

Dr. Parshin’s patients do not have to wait several weeks for an outside lab to make their veneers. Parshin Dental has its own in-house 3D system that can custom design and print your veneers while you wait. This process allows Dr. Parshin to oversee every step of the veneer creation process and ensure a good fit, without the need for additional visits or unnecessary delays.

If you have always wished you could transform your smile into one you will be proud of, now is the time to schedule a consultation with Dr. Alex Parshin online or by calling Parshin Dental for an appointment at (718) 494-2010.

If you are in the interview process of your search for that first job or for a position that advances you up the corporate ladder, you know that one of the cardinal rules of “dressing to impress” is to smile, smile, smile. Same is true if you are looking to attract that someone special to enter your life. Or you are just preparing for that new family portrait where you want everyone – including yourself – to look their best. If you have a smile that is less than gleaming and eye-popping, your career pursuit may stall, your social life could be stuck in neutral, or you lost confidence in your appearance. If these or any other scenarios are being negatively affected by the condition of your teeth, then you may want to consider a smile makeover in Staten Island.

Dr. Alex Parshin, as a fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, is highly skilled in treating patients who have less than perfect smiles, including patients with one or more missing teeth. What his patients like most about him is his natural ability to put them at ease and speak to them in understandable terms. Dr. Parshin takes whatever time is needed to fully listen to his patients to learn about their concerns before he performs any examinations or recommends any course of treatment. With careful preparation through digital x-rays and advanced 3D scanning, Dr. Parshin will be able to determine the best path to improve your smile.

What conditions can a smile makeover improve?

A smile makeover in Staten Island can be the recommended treatment for several oral health conditions. Every makeover is custom-designed by Dr. Parshin to provide specific improvements for each individual patient. Stained or dull-looking teeth is one of the most frequently treated conditions in a smile makeover. Also, teeth that overlap, are crooked, or have space between them can be treated. These ailments can lead to tooth decay and poor health. Dr. Parshin can address those gaps with a smile makeover.

He also examines the proportion of your teeth to determine if they are in the correct balance with each other. Dr. Parshin may also check something called your “smile line” that, if perfectly aligned, means the edges of your upper teeth conform to the contour of your lower lip when you open your mouth and smile.

What treatments can be done as part of a smile makeover?

For discolored, aged-looking teeth, Dr. Parshin will personalize a course of action that may include in-office teeth whitening treatments. He is proficient at selecting the right shade of teeth whitening so that it complements your natural skin tone and hair color, and without making it appear that you went totally out of sync with your mouth and the rest of your physical appearance.

If you have teeth that are chipped, broken or out of alignment, porcelain veneers can improve their look and hide any obvious flaws. Dental bondings will close any gaps between teeth and can even out any imperfect or jagged edges. These treatments are addressed the same day, with crowns and veneers created in-office, using the latest 3D technology so that patients can enjoy their smile without the typical delays associated with dental work.

What sets Dr. Parshin apart?

Dr. Parshin utilizes the most advanced technology available to ensure precise care. Utilizing digital x-rays, 3D printing, and on-location created ceramic restorations, Dr. Parshin will help you rediscover your beautiful smile.
