How much radiation does a dental X-ray produce?

Many people are understandably concerned about the radiation encountered through X-rays. However, modern digital radiography uses extremely low doses of radiation. The amount of radiation in one set of bitewing X-rays is about the same as one day of natural background radiation, or a short airplane flight (1-2 hours). There’s no reason to worry about your radiation exposure from dental X-rays, and the benefits of early detection and treatment far outweigh the tiny radiation dose. Our office uses the most modern digital X-ray technology to minimize your radiation exposure.
